Agitation may turn violent, warn medicos
NEW DELHI: With the protest against reservations intensifying in the city and elsewhere, the Faculty Association of AIIMS announced that faculty members would go on mass casual leave on Thursday.
"We will attend only to the needy patients," said a faculty member. A call for one-day Delhi bandh on Thursday has been given by the striking medicos.
Saturday will see a mega-rally called "Dilli aao, desh bachao" at 5 pm at Ramlila Maidan.

"Our target is to get 1,00,000 people. The actual target, however, will be known only on Thursday," said Dr Manish.
Talking about the simmering discontent, Dr Binod Patro, president, AIIMS RDA, said, "There was an immediate disappointment at night.
But overnight, we were flooded with hundreds of calls from doctors all over the country and everybody said the same thing now or never and do or die. This is a chance that the government has given us to start a revolution in the entire nation. This is just the beginning."
Doctors also fear that the agitation may turn violent. "Whatever faith, respect and trust we had in our PM is lost. The government has ignored us because we were non-violent and we are now being provoked to turn violent," said Dr Subrato Mandal of AIIMS...

For those medicos agitating at AIIMS, but in favour of reservation, Tuesdays announcement was overdue. "This is a welcome move.
But there has been a lot of bitterness because of the events of the last one month. A lot of insecurity has been created amongst students and doctors of the reserved categories," said Dr Vikas Bajpai of the Medical Forum for Equal Opportunities.
Meanwhile, traders too announced that they would keep markets closed till 1 pm on Thursday. "Connaught Place will be closed till 1 pm.
We have also asked all other markets to support us," said Ajay Sood on behalf of the New Delhi Traders Association.
